U.S. troops operating under the auspices of NATO conducted a drill in Kosovo based around attacking a communications facility belonging to a foreign power and killing all its personnel.
The exercise, which took place last week, involved soldiers with NATO’s Multinational Battle Group East practicing a night time raid on a radio tower. The servicemen involved were Paratroopers from the 1st Squadron (Airborne), 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division.
Footage released by the Department of Defense shows U.S. troops engaged in a mock battle with other uniformed soldiers, with that role being fulfilled by Hungarian troops.
According to platoon leader Lt. Christopher Mittuch, “The mission was to destroy a radio tower that was being taken over by the enemy. We moved at night and climbed through thick woods up the mountain to reach the objective.”
The mission to destroy the tower and “kill everybody” was successful, according to Mittuch.
“This is not the last thing we will do. We have to stay ready for anything that may happen,” said Mittuch, adding that the Hungarian troops, “did a good job playing the enemy because they didn’t see them initially when we came up.”
The exercise took place amidst mounting tensions between the United States and both Russia and China.
The Russian defense ministry today announced “massive surprise inspection” readiness drills which will involve 250 aircraft and 12,000 servicemen practicing maneuvers over the Ural mountains and Siberia.
The exercise is Moscow’s response to a massive NATO fighter jet wargame dubbed “Arctic Challenge,” which will involve Germany, Britain, France, the Netherlands and the United States.
Several prominent figures have also warned of the possibility of global conflict in recent weeks if relations between the three superpowers continue to worsen.
Yesterday we reported on how a top NATO official told NSA intelligence analyst John Schindler that the world would “probably be at war” sometime this summer.
“We’ll probably be at war this summer, if we’re lucky it won’t be nuclear,” the official told Schindler last week.
Billionaire investor George Soros also recently expressed concern about the economic situation in China, remarking that a potential collapse could force Beijing to rally the population around an external enemy.
“There is a real danger that China will align itself with Russia politically and militarily, and then the threat of third world war becomes real,” said Soros.
The Global Times, a state media outlet owned by the ruling Communist Party, also warned yesterday that “war is inevitable” if Washington doesn’t halt its demands that Beijing stop building artificial islands in the South China Sea.
