Adults with little Internet experience show changes in their brain activity after just one week online, a new study finds.

The results suggest Internet training can stimulate neural activation patterns and could potentially enhance brain function and cognition in older adults.

As the brain ages, a number of structural and functional changes occur, including atrophy, or decay, reductions in cell activity and increases in complex things like deposits of amyloid plaques and tau tangles, which can impact cognitive function.

Research has shown that mental stimulation similar to the stimulation that occurs in individuals who frequently use the Internet may affect the efficiency of cognitive processing and alter the way the brain encodes new information.

Results of new scientific study just in: Doing anything other than watching TV news makes you smarter. Reporters at CNN and Fox think that might also mean watching TV news makes people dumb, but they’re really not sure. Rick Sanchez is investigating further, stay tuned for more misinformation at 10PM.

All joking aside – I take in 700% more information now then before I started using the internet.

I do not even recognize the naive young mis-informed person I used to be.

A truly free, ubiquitous, internet (which we do not yet have) could be the catalyst for the next renissance of man – that is why those in power will stop at nothing to put the genie back in the bottle before they lose all control!

      We must RESIST!

      Really? Everyone is an “Obamadroid”?

Just because they are from a reputable university does not mean someone is an “Obama Droid”. God forbid someone gets an education without being labeled, “Sheep”.

Check what your fighting for, the Truth movement used to stand for bigger things such as bringing down labelers and barriers. Now any idiot with a youtube subscribed to AJ account posts on this website.

I like this study. I an personally vogue for the study knowing that my brain is stimulated from going on the internet and engaging in debates/conversations under topics that would not usually be brought up in the real world. I’m definitely more aware then my friends about a mixed set of topics.

    21. port80web Says:

There’s another activity that increases brain activity too. You all may have heard of it. It’s called reading books!

      Gary Reply:

Fundamentally, there is no difference between reading a book and reading a blog. The mechanics of reading are the same. The only difference is the content, but, in many cases, what is online was originally offline, so there is no real difference there, either. As for the quality of the writing, I’ve read articles in magazines and newspapers that were just as poorly written as any blogs I’ve ever read. So, basically, there isn’t much real substance to the snobbery against the internet.

      claud Reply:

I respect your arguement and agree in many ways, but only fundamentally ;)

Books are more complex than online reading, longer, more drawn-out, often better vocabulary, the ideas are often more complex (ok, compare e-books are they are the same, but I’m talking about more common reading like blogs, news, websites etc.). Yes the fundamental process can be seen as the same but books are still on a way higher level than the Internet.

The Internet is still great however as it has the ability to condense complex topics into short concise material which is easier to digest and can be searched for and read at an instant. I do also think (what I think you’re implying) that any reading is better than none, assuming that there is no disconnect or erosion in what was originally proposed and what was thereafter deduced (think Chinese whispers). Both have benefits. I need to read more books I know as well. The Internet is all too easy! :)

Alan Watt was right! We’re in THE MATRIX!!!

    25. Alfons v911t Says:

Reading books is highly overrated, conspiracy websites are highly underrated, but never the less, and less the never too true for a normal brain to assimilate with cogent benevolence, or anything resembling a real or valid thought, or a reasonable resemblance thereof et al and others to be named upon discovery.

      Gary Reply:

The thing about reading is that it works the same in either medium, books or the internet. Besides, a lot of the content on the internet was contained in books and other printed offline sources, to begin with.

    26. Alfons v911t Says:

Alan Watt was right. Your brain changes when you eat breakfast or not! Matrix or not we all know that we don’t know what the hell is going on.

    27. BobLeeSwagger Says:

The internet did improve my brain. I researched the federal reserve and got started down the path that broke my false left right programming and led me to Alex Jones and other truth movements. So it helped me shake off the fog of stupidity that I labored under and now Im awake to the plans of the shitbag organization called the NWO which I would have called you a looney conspiracy theorist if you would have told me about this just 5-6 years ago. So yes the internet has improved my brain.

    35. Gary Says:

Makes sense. As I’ve said, unlike TV, which is a one-way, passive experience, the internet is a two-way interactive experience that requires your concentration, memory, hand-eye coordination, reading skills and decision-making.

      Jimmy Ribbitt Reply:

And I suppose that would be true of anyone in Internet radio, since we have to monitor 2 or 3 screens at one.

    37. Roj Blake Says:

I am wondering. Alex says that the 60hz frequency was chosen by the pentagon for TV due to it’s hypnotic abilities. If you monitor is running at a 60hz refresh rate, can reading internet information hypnotize you also? (I am not counting videos)

    38. 1337cshacker Says:

My grandfather has been using the internet for a while. He is much more intuitive, responsive, and intelligent now than he was before he got a computer. The internet challenges you, makes you think, and is better than reading a book or anything else like a crossword puzzle, etc. Take his wife, my grandmother, for example, she is in a great decline, in attitude, and reasoning.

Roj Blake, yes, if your monitor is at 60hrtz it can put you into that same hypnotic state. The difference is, is that the internet or a computer is not constantly pushing lies down your throat, like the TV.

What lies in front of you, and lies behind you, is different, that what lies right to your face. The tv.

If my parents would not kick my fucking ass forever, I would take a sledge hammer and beat the fuck out of our TV.

      Sincerely,
      - 7.62 hero (ak glory)
