UK to Spend £12 Billion for Real-time Snoop System

The U.K. authorities are considering spending up to 12 billion pounds ($21 billion) on a database to keep information on Internet intercepts, e-mail and telephone records of everyone in Britain, The Sunday Times reported.
U.K. officials say live monitoring is necessary to fight terrorism and crime. However, critics have doubts about whether such a vast system can be kept secure, the paper said.

The British security service MI5 currently conducts limited e-mail and website intercepts only under warrants from the home secretary, the paper said.
According to The Sunday Times, the government’s eavesdropping center, GCHQ, has already been allocated 1 billion British pounds ($21 billion) to finance the first stage of the project.
Hundreds of secret probes are believed to be installed on two of the country’s biggest Internet and mobile phone providers – BT and Vodafone – to monitor customers live, the paper said.
According to The Sunday Times, no formal decision had yet been taken but sources said that officials had agreed in principle to the program.
“Any suggestion of the government using existing powers to intercept communications data without public discussion is going to sound extremely sinister,” the paper quoted Dominic Grieve, the shadow home secretary, as saying.

You are right to some extent but I am a good indicator of trends. I am not a leader but I am near the front of the great mass of people when it comes to new things and new ideas. The fact I am on the case means a great deal of other people are ahead of me and even more are on the way. They may not have the full “Alex Jones” awaireness but they are cirtainly waking up. It’s amazing to be living in these times. The tyrony is accellerating and so is the awareness. People have been cynical of polotics and corpratizum for some years but now they are beginning to see what a bunch of evil criminals are Cunning the Runtry (my favorite spoonerizum).

I can’t help but shake my head when I think of how freakin’ subserviant Brits are. Want to know why this won’t work?
In 2005, there were 165m Vodafone customers alone. Bear in mind, more and more people are going into telephone contracts, and only this year Dot Mobile went into administration, with Vodafone automatically taking over every customer from that network.
Combine that with British Telecom (who about half of the UK uses one way or another), how on earth are these people going to be constantly monitored? Yeah, sure, ‘buzzwords’ in calls. Bull. There are simply not enough hours in a day to monitor these calls, not enough men working for these people.
Also you have the massive risk of people leaving contracts, and they’re certainly not going to want that when you’re in the middle of a recession, are you??
