UN rights mission hears of Gaza children’s suffering

A UN human rights mission listened to testimony about the suffering of children in the Gaza Strip on Monday before wrapping up two days of public hearings into alleged Israeli war crimes.
Around 20 percent of children in Gaza suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome brought on by witnessing violent acts, child psychologist Dr Iyad Sarraj told the panel.
“The amount of killing and blood that they have seen or that their relatives have suffered from… it’s a huge amount, and this leads to negative psychological feelings, to radicalism and a cycle of violence,” he said.
More than half of Gaza’s population of 1.5 million is under 18 years of age.

It’s obvious that you haven’t read any of Hamas’s writings, you just read what the media tells you. At least Hamas makes it clear why they exist and what they stand for. The Israelies don’t even try to explain the methodology of their obviously brutal regime. You think that they would explain why they spray white phosphorus on children just to be mean and sadistic while their people cheer on the outskirts, enjoying every minute of the children’s suffering.

Israel did not sign the treaties or submit to contracts that bound them by international laws or humanitarian standards. Therefore, legally they are not liable for killing Gazan civilians or causing mental anguish to children. This is a good reason why America should shed its support for a country not bound by international law.
But because Israel can’t be tried for international violations, severe santions should be placed on Israel for these war crimes and give them no access to sophiscated weapons.

Jacob, I don’t know if you’ve been there, but I went with a relief mission sponsored by a local Quaker group. There is NOTHING anywhere for the Palestinians. They flock to cities because that’s where the small amount of opportunity is. Israeli settlers are taking the most of the best farm land, and the rest is used for Israeli construction projects, like big highways and dams. When I was there, the big issue was Israel diverting MORE fresh water out of Gaza and into Israel. Do you know what that does to a person? It makes them angry. When you take something they need, they get pissed off and will do whatever they feel is needed to get back their resources. Does this make sense to you, yet? It’s true, Hamas is nowhere near a perfect government, but it was elected for a reason. Peace with Israel is next to impossible as long as the Israeli government keeps taking land. You might bring up the concessions Israel gave, but just as they were giving those concessions, thousands of West Bank settlers were moving deeper into the territory with the aid of the military.
Hamas may move it’s citizens into dangerous zones, but I saw no proof of that when I was there. I talked to civilians who said they liked Hamas, and some who did not. But no one ever mentioned the relocation of citizens into military zones. The complaints consisted of “they could do better to promote peace,” or “put more money towards public works.” You should really go there, but I know who would just talk to those poor, poor West Bank settlers who enjoy spitting on CHILDREN as they try to get to school. Great people, truly chosen…
