It's too late for phone calls and letters to Capitol Hill! Enhanced drivers licenses WILL take the place of the Real ID/Pass Act, nationwide, and SOON. Washington State is already implementing tracking chips in driver's licenses...today it's voluntary; tomorrow, MANDATORY. You should also know that anyone who has received a NEW PASSPORT within the last year or so has a tracking chip implanted in it. The chip is located inside the center area of the back cover, so be extremely careful. Should you accidentally slam a hammer or some other heavy object directly down on it, chances are high that it would permanently malfunction. It is ILLEGAL to deface U.S. govt property--so make sure to keep it in a safe place! You might also want to make your own aluminum foil jacket for it. The tracking device in your passport can easily be read by ANYONE who has an inexpensive reader [purchased at Radio Shack type electronic stores] therefore your personal info is easily susceptible to being stolen.
