I don’t think this was funny, its more of the same from this unenlightened generation of pranksters and fart-jokers. Ron Paul is a straight shooter, down to earth, get to business sort of guy, a lot of people resent the resolve and class he has and would do anything to try and take it away from him.
I think this speaks of our generation, how profane we are, disrespectful, and in the gutter-without class American society is. Go look at some black and white pictures from back in the depression. People were wearing suits on the unemployment lines – immigrants were coming off the ships dressed up! People tipped their hats to each other, TV promoted ideals, we opened doors for one another, and there was something called “courtesy” used in public – with our private lives kept at home. Look out the window today, a bunch of flip-flop wearing, beer gutted slobs reaching down their pants and getting a laugh at someone else’s expense – dragging all their problems and deficiencies behind them like a proud pet owner. We’ve fallen, and the symptoms are obvious, everywhere.
“Bruno” might make you laugh, tearing someone down on American Idol might make you feel good for a few minutes, but at the end of the day, we are bankrupt on all levels imaginable. Go plop down 10 dollars and go watch Bruno, nevermind the wars, disease, economy, and tragedy that awaits you. And perhaps people that allow this to happen to them without a fight, do deserve extermination?

I took Grace to mean Dr. Paul would get a publicity boost if the right wrong thing happened to him. Which is not something I’m wishing for!, though I’ll say I thought he handled this very well; the unfortunate truth is that even people who saw Ron Paul on the debates, in the paper…if they don’t remember a Name, or the page he was on they have no idea WHO that is…well now (and he’s your unfortunately

As I’ve been saying in this story’s comments, I think Cohen is often hilarious, and will go further to say the weird, often terrible, feelings that come from watching his work are much more robust than comedy. FINALLY someone who understands the basis for the ALI G / Borat / Bruno characters. Cohen’s comedy is a constant play off of culture shock. Pay close attention to the reactions of everyone Cohen ’sets up’ with in any of his comedies. The irrational dipshits begin to stand out, and that’s the point. Bruno and the other chars embellish that fact. If anything, this movie actually sheds light on the honesty and intellect of Ron Paul simply due to his reaction to the situation. Of course the immaturity factor is emphasized; gotta learn to speak sheep somehow.

I was heavily involved in his campaign and am still an avid supporter off his, but what happened was funny and it’s simply a matter of him getting duped. If you can honestly say you would’ve been pissed about this happening to anyone and your reasons for disliking it are unrelated to who the actual target was, good on you for standing for what you believe in. Ron Paul isn’t going to sue because he’s got more important things to do. All this debate does is take away from the issues at hand. Did you see the Colbert Report with Nicholas Kristof? They are poisoning our water, they don’t regulate hormone suppressors turning up in our plastic products and they are recirculating pharmaceuticals they’ve got everyone taking like candy through the water stream because there isn’t a method being used to filter them out.
So that’s probably a little more important than a comedy movie – at least to me. So when you see a rise in birth defects, homosexuality, and mental illness, know its your government doing it, slowly killing you all, bidding their time as your attempts to fight back become more feeble and fewer in between. But since its not in terms your small minds can understand, like a knife twisting in your guts, or bullets bouncing off the wall next to you, you go back to sleep. Ron Paul isn’t going to sue because he’s got more important things to do. All this debate does is take away from the issues at hand. Did you see the Colbert Report with Nicholas Kristof? They are poisoning our water, they don’t regulate hormone suppressors turning up in our plastic products and they are recirculating pharmaceuticals they’ve got everyone taking like candy through the water stream because there isn’t a method being used to filter them out.
So that’s probably a little more important than a comedy movie – at least to me. So when you see a rise in birth defects, homosexuality, and mental illness, know its your government doing it, slowly killing you all, bidding their time as your attempts to fight back become more feeble and fewer in between. But since its not in terms your small minds can understand, like a knife twisting in your guts, or bullets bouncing off the wall next to you, you go back to sleep. Won’t be long before you just stand there, even with a knife twisting in your guts, with that resigned look you see in wilder beasts on the Discovery Channel.

Where is the humor in deceiving Dr. Paul or anyone else with an intent to portray an individual as someone they are not? Futhermore it is obvious, because it happened, that whoever arranged this interview failed to serve the best intrests of Congressman Ron Paul and should IMO no longer maintain his position.
The whole short episode was totally uncalled for and only used to discredit Cong Paul – are there no longer any standards in moral behavior? No need to reply for I know the answer.
In conclusion let me just state that if this had happened to me, the outcome would have definately been much different than me just leaving the room … and most likely he would not be inclined to pull such a stunt on an innocent victim in the future.
Hopefully Dr. Paul and his staff will never again allow himself in the future to be deceived by those with an agenda or those who wish to profit at his expense.

If this was a ‘joke’ or a ‘punk’, this ‘man’ (as opposed to “Man” … a real human being with conscience and a sense of reality) Bruno should be put in jail for liable or defemation of character. I’m freaking outraged that this ‘animal’ (Bruno) would be so thoughtless to put Dr. Paul in this situation and dishonor all of his hard work. Of course, Dr. Paul’s integrity and character will carry him through this ‘bump in the road’. As fo the ‘devil’ Bruno, he has such little sense of propriety, it is obvious he cares little for Dr. Paul’s feelings, his reputation, and could care nothing for the consequences of his behavior. He wasn’t there as a ‘placement’ or by ‘accident’ as he didn’t even know who Cohen was. Paul was there and the interview was being done under the pretense of an interview. But this wasn’t in a hotel room. It was in a studio. Also, according to Paul, “Getting me there was dishonesty, getting me into the interview. I was expecting an interview on Austrian economics.” It’s in the second video, 56 seconds in. Watch both again. But I shouldn’t have to tell you this!!!
The excuse for going into the bedroom was suggested by someone off-camera when one of the TV lights popped and burned out. There were more cameras placed in the bedroom indicating that the TV light burnout in the livingroom was a setup and meant to entrap Paul.
You’re the one who isn’t paying attention and is being duped into believing this crap that caused you to leave such a silly comment. Infowars is not trying to look relevant by mentioning CRAP culture but is exposing what you think is entertainment.

What do you have “gay-dar” ? How do you know what Ron Pauls orientation is? From everything I know he is a straight man and his response to “Bruno” was appropriate for a straight man being duped. Obviously, he had some of his own people in the hallway which is why he said, let’s go. What he didn’t do right was to be accompanied inside to the suite. Many interviews take place inside hotel room suites. He didn’t have any of his people on the “set” with him but outside the door. He should have had some of his people inside the suite with him. The moment they offered him to go inside the room, it would have been better had he or his handler said “NO we’ll wait here or outside the room.”
Being “accessable” doesn’t mean throwing caution to the wind and assuming everyone is acting with benevolence. He probably knows now, he’s got to watch it.

Watch the video again. The unseen director or technician hustles Cohen and Paul into the next room so that they can deal with a technical problem. The hidden camera in the next room reveals that the technical problem was intentionally created to justify directing them to go into the next room. Ron Paul was just being respectful, cooperative, and accommodating because he thought there was a real technical problem, when it was in fact all a setup.

Are you aware that sexual abuse and harassment is exhibited on many levels such as mental, physical and emotional? Looks like this “thing” in this room hit on all three.

He didn’t have any of his people on the “set” with him. He’s a public figure who should be capable of understanding he may be the target of a smear, and worse, maybe an attempt against his person so it would be encumbent upon him and within his realm of personal responsibility to insure his own safety. If he turns around and sues, what exactly can he win a judgement on, I’m not sure. Being embarrassed isn’t enough. But another person being sexually innappropriate with him, using the guise of an interview and then using it to promote a movie…that looks like a good angle! I would think that he could only sue for being lured under false pretense and his image used in a movie without his permission. Assuming his permission was needed. The problem is Paul is in a hard situation. Should he sue or shouldn’t he…what could be lost or gained…he might be seeing an upside to this. Publicity for one. At any rate, Ron Paul has nothing to feel ashamed about though I hope from now on he as a public figure will do more on behalf of his own security. Keeping his own camera person around might be a good idea too.

Any freedom ends where the rights of another begins, ad Ron Paul had the right and expectation to be dealt with honestly, with full disclosure. His agreement to appear was a CONTRACT, and quite possibly made in writing. If the people behind Cohen, who made the contract, did not disclose its true intent, which was not a serious interview, then it was fraud.
Freedom of speech does not mean you can do or say anything to anyone, at any time, without consequences. Fraud is often accomplished by the spoken word. If freedom of speech were absolute, then libel and fraud could not be considered crimes, just freedom of speech.
If you are going to invoke rights, then you had better understand what they are, and that every right also comes with responsibilities, and ends where the rights of others begins.

Ron Paul is for freedom and equality in general, and that includes people’s personal decisions involving their sexuality. He believes that all being equal, gays have no more nor less rights that anyone else to seek life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The key concept here is that gays should have no MORE rights than anyone else.
If I did what ‘Cohen did in front of a female, I could certainly get carted off to jail and face charges in court. Just because Ron Paul is man did not give Cohen the right to do what he clearly could not have done to any woman he might find himself working with, which would easily end up in a sexual harassment lawsuit.

So if you feel uncomfortable with Cohen’s antics, why not pause a moment and think about the madness you are confronted with every day. I do not care what Ron Paul’s religious beliefs are, his stance on the need to audit and then abolish the Federal Reserve System, and the return of the government to the strict limits and constraints of the Constitution, are absolutely correct, and what matters most to the future of this country.
None of us has to agree with absolutely everything Ron Paul, or anyone else believes, especially concerning religion, but only on those matters we have in common, regardless of religion, with monetary policy rating high on the list, if not at the top.

Some of you people really need to get over themselves! It’s just a movie! Cohan is not some zionist agent out to “trap” Ron Paul in some kind of smear campaign. It’s a joke, nothing more than that. People who read more into that are overly paranoid.
As for people saying this isn’t funny. Fine, that’s your opinion. Comedy is subjective, just because you don’t find it funny, it doesn’t mean someone else wont find it funny. But some of the vile comments people are making about Cohen are just so over the top. Maybe it touched a nerve with some people, it’s the kind of reaction I’d expect from self-hating, closet homosexuals.
Wasn’t this kind of humor (i.e. Unwitting people put into unfamiliar situations while being filmed on a secret camera) used back in the days of Candid Camera? Sure it was more tame back then, but the concept is the same. So don’t try and target the style of comedy, because it’s been around for a long time. The real problem you have is the character’s homosexuality, which just highlights your own repressed homosexual desires. And the threats of violence towards Cohen because of this stunt just show how stupid some people are, Bruno is a fictional character, Cohen is actually hetrosexual and engaged to the gorgeous Isla Fisher and have a baby daughter together.
At least Ron Paul has the sense to to see it for what it is and laugh about it later in the second video.

He has even said on the gay/lesbian marriage issue that the state should have no say, because it is a religious rite so should be determined by the church (in other words, he believes the state should have NO SAY in marriage at all, period).

Dr. Paul has spoken to homosexuals before at events I have attended with is as a speaker. He does support their rights to do as they please, though he disagrees with it. Dr. Paul always says that he supports everyone’s freedom to do as they please, though he may not enjoy using his freedom in the same way.

Good job Ron. He did the best thing he could have done. As soon as he noticed this was a fishy setup he left. He did better than I would have. Bruno would have left in a body bag or on a hospital gurny if he had tried that crap on me. Of course Dr. Paul is a little too advanced in age to physically harm the guy much, and he is also non-violent, so he did what was the best thing for him. He simply said “screw this” and left.
I notice when they do a lot of this stuff they tend to pick people who won’t just crack some skulls. Their targets usually are trying to be professional and just do what they normally do, which is interviews with media persons. Unfortunately for them, Dr. Paul is smart enough to can it and just leave instead of staying and putting up with the mess.

When a baby sucks on mother’s breast, that can be categorized as sexual behavior. The societies view on what really is sex is extremely perverted. It is not that simple though.
Constant exposure to visual material (e.g. depicting intercourse) without participation affects male’s brain activity. If all fertile females (say from 18–30) would walk naked on the streets, that constant conflict of motivations (’I want that female now’ and ‘I am not allowed to do that’) affects negatively the overall mental health of a healthy male. So I understand why especially in Muslim countries females are fully covered: to reduce motivational conflicts in male’s brain. How this affects ’society’ as a whole: quantity of focused males is increased resulting in e.g. reduction of violence inside ’society’.

I don’t, and view that as more of a metaphor than a document of an actual occurrence.
(The New Testament was also written by Greeks who had never even been to the Holy Land, and, not surprisingly, their work is filled with errors & reflects a decidedly non-jewish view of faith that Jesus would not have shared.)
On the other hand, there is quite a bit of historical documentation of the diet practiced by the early christians, and even groups like the essenes & nazarenes were vegetarian.

But you missed my point, the question is why was it flipped, why turn something usual and turn it upside down? He didn’t feed huge crowd with two fishes and bread, he gave everyone from that crowd two fishes and bread. See the difference?
He turned wine into water on some wedding, not the other way around. In other words he was present at a gathering where people were drinking alcohol and replaced it with water. Now that requires some mental strength and charisma.

This goes well beyond freedom of speech. Speech is an audible expresion of ones views based on input, impressions, environment and perspective. Tricking someone to go into a room and pulling your pants down goes far beyond freedom of speech. If Ron Paul were a woman representative and ANYONE cornered her in a room and pulled down their pants, it would have been attempted rape and at the minimum indecent exposure. How is it that we have come to a place where this is OK, even funny and encouraged. Ron Paul got angry when it happened as any decent, law abiding citizen would. saw this with my wife, we both laughed our asses off. will have to say i feel bad for mr. paul mainly because of his age and his constent work he probably had no earthly idea what he was getting into. bruno is a character that cohen has done for years and a lot of younger people know that and would have recognized right of the bat. also agree that cohen sought him out souly because of that fact. it doesnt hurt that cohens agent has family that is very powerful in washington, and could be very influential on a movie scene. i think this was a stab at getting a very different reaction out of mr.paul then what you seen out of the movie. i dont think cohen expected him to walk out, i think he expected him to beat the shit out him, and i also think it was set in that context to try to hurt mr. paul’s reputation.cohen was wanting people see the homophobe old white guy put foot to ass on the latent homo. how well do think that would have went for mr. paul? he showed that he is a gentleman, and a true diplomatic person, one who avoids confrontation at all costs, keeps a level head in very tough situations, and even ( if you listen second video with this article) that he was able to laugh about the situation while in the same sentence show why it was inherently wrong. way to go mr. paul!! give them who you are, not what they tried to create. as for cohen, its hard because ive seen his other movies, yes funny, yes brings alot of stuff to the surface, yes its crass, but free speach people its what seperates us from the rest, makes us the best. just remember that when you watch these films that you are getting this mans opion on top of the comedy, and his opinion is coming from the other side of the american table. so laugh all we want, just be smart while we are laughing.

Bruno & Borat, though crass films, are the only serious issue based comedies to make it to the big screen in decades. Sure they’re biased and somewhat anti-america but that isn’t such a bad thing. I think Sascha new this would give publicity to Ron Paul – make people feel sorry for him and stick up for him. Paul’s use of the word ‘queer’ may have lost him the gay vote but I’m sure Paul is now more popular than ever with the homophobic masses. Good day t’ya’ll!

o.k., how am i suppose to feel? i love them both, and i’m gay! i probably would’ve reacted the same way were i a straight old dude. i know that the overall intent of this film was to entertain (and it certainly delivers there), but it also aimed to expose homophobia, which apparently is still (and will always be) a part of our reality. as far as them picking Paul for this scene, i’m glad they did…more exposure for him. i voted for Paul in November and i can’t wait to buy the blu-ray of Bruno when it comes out…hilarious film! if you are a Paul supporter who is bent out of shape about this then you are probably a bit homophobic yourself or you’re just taking it all too seriously.

Yeah, it was funny – Ron Paul is such a straight-laced type, it must have been too easy to punk him. I think that Nader inetrview on Ali G show was funnier.
