Violent protests resume in Greece’s Athens

Hundreds of Greek youths staged fresh protests in Athens, clashing with police amid Greece’s worst riots in decades sparked by the recent killing of a teenager by police, local TV channels reported Sunday.
Students threw stones and firebombs at police in the Athens district of Exarchia where 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos had been shot dead on December 6, and also erected roadblocks around the nearby Polytechnic University. The police responded with tear gas, TV channels said.
The riots, sparked by the youth’s killing, earlier spread to other Greek cities, leaving a trail of destruction as youths went on the rampage looting shops and setting fire to hundreds of cars, banks and businesses.
A recent opinion poll published by the Ethnos newspaper said 83% of Greeks were unhappy with the methods used by the government to deal with the violence.

Two police officers have been detained over the teenager’s killing. One of them, Epaminondas Korkoneas, who claims he fired warning shots in self-defense which ricocheted, was charged with murder and the illegal use of his weapon. I’ll split this in three posts.
While the protests are going on, the actions of people who honestly want to make a change are nullified
every time someone sets a car on fire or wrecks a store. The frustration and helplessness have taken their
toll on oppressed people, doesn’t matter whether Greek, Icelandic or American. Before patriots leave angry
responses here, understand this- your efforts and struggle are appreciated and you are definitely not
alone in this. Everyone who is honest to the struggle and themselves can feel the anguish of what it means
when all your hopes or wishes for a better country mean nothing. We want to see our homes that are our
countries across the world become friendly to us, their citizens. In the end it doesn’t really matter
where one lives, we all share one home and it’s security is at stake. But before you and everyone of us
who want to see it become better rush to false actions, must also realize HOW to make it better. As much
as our oppinions here differ, those of us who are honest agree on one thing. Which is the fact that there
is one problem we all face. How to tackle it is another story.
This is where a person’s state of mind comes into consideration. It determines how an individual is able
to cope with the stress. One that arises from what he or she has learned about the problem he or she is
confronted with. If unsuccessful in dealing with it, at the end it is fear what an individual feels.
Fear is a powerful adversary when one doesn’t understand it’s true nature or the real reason for it. It
is easily seen that, in that case, it can only drive a person to ever more extreme decisions which bring
nothing good.

Of course then we’ll have martial law and our lives will be horrible, but then all the ignorant and willfully blind in our country will have no choice but to realize what’s going on. contrary to what some believe, to just show ourselves. March up on the streets and show how many we are who
disagree with how the corrupt minority is governing. I can guarantee they will be scared. They are scared
of us right now, more than we are of them. They are scared of us, because they know that we can show up
united for one cause. They are scared because they know we have seen their criminal actions and we can
call them on it. They are scared because they have EVERYTHING to lose, their system which they built up
through the many decades past. They fear that we will all become so organized that their criminal efforts
to handicap us will be worth nothing. So they kill our Fred Hampton’s, Martin Luther Kings, our Gandhis
and Kennedies, because they know that right now without them, we are just a divided state which is easily
ruled.
Understand yourself and understand your enemy. For the most part we know not what we do and we are not as
united as we need to be. If you cannot peacefully convince your neighbour to help, we might not stand a
chance. In communism and nazism the secret police gathered the most information on citizens exactly from
them. Neighbour ratted out neighbour and even brother denounced a brother. This is how it was in this part
of Europe, and the mindset hasn’t changed. Little grievances and trivial grudges would make people become
wolves to each other, if they had something to gain. So for the love of God, or anything that you hold in
high esteem- think before you act. A crumb of privilege is not worth your soul. We MUST be UNITED. In
spite of many who disagree with us or violently oppose – it can be done. This is our collective future
we are talking about. Remember love and show compassion for others, beause they have their struggle- then
show that you understand the difference between bad and good. That is the time when WE show our
disagreement with the bad. That is when we act with many voices and many oppinions, but as one. It is the
future of us all that is at stake. The time for it is now.

#8, …- this is what i wonder myself. How can anyone keep doing what they do when the subject of their work is so overwhealmingly dangerous? We know that it is, people exposing the truth which is unpleasant for some, have been killed because of it. All around the world. It boggles the mind and haunts one until a person gets over it. But how can that be done? By distancing one’s self from the subject? Forgetting it’s there, yet still working it? Makes you question any person who reports on a subject. Luckily it’s human nature never to trust anyone. We can work together, but we’re not perfect.
The important thing is to watch everyone closely and remember the whistleblowers who gave everything for what they believed in. They are a real source of inspiration and a good example for all of us. I’d dedicate a national holiday in all of their names. And ours, if we stay true.

If what you say is true, that Alex is mainly fighting the government corruption for the money, then why does he put his numerous films and documentaries, and even his book, FREE online for all to view and disseminate? Alex even tells his listeners to make hundreds of copies of his films and disseminte them liberally. Is this consistent with one who is only in it for the money? Most producers and authors will take you to court if you make copies of their work.

It is regretable that those in Greece who allowed things to deteriorate to this point will not re-examine the root cause and attempt to reverse the cause. That is an example of a GVT that “does no wrong’. We have the same GVT mentality here in the US by our so called “leaders” that “might makes right” has always prevailed in the past against other nations and it will against the US population as well. I truly hope we don’t get to experiecne what Greece is doing.. But as the kettle slowly boils.. some frogs don’t cook so well.

Greece is one of the poorest European countries; really their more of an Ottoman country (if you want to get really technical.) So, when something goes wrong with the economy there, it goes wrong with the economy in Europe; it goes doubly wrong in Greece.
Why? Corrupt officials, lack of capitalism, unlimited democratic vote on issues.

Strange that I got my first post censored from this site ever and it was in response to this article, so I’ll summarize.
The US has the most highly armed populace in the world. To those in other countries that bemoan the fact that the American people have not yet rioted in the streets- I’ll tell you this; other than Greece and Iceland there has not been much else so you go first!
These countries had a “spark”. Americans have had it good for so long that the “spark” will only come when too many people are starting to hurt. The veneer of this false prosperity is starting to be peeled back. The “spark” could becoming so be careful for what you wish for!
Why this seemingly innocuous post wasn’t up yesterday I will never know. Technical server overload glitch?

Wow – they’re only using tear gas. The Greeks are a bunch of whining weiners. Where the hell are the legendary “Spartans”?
They’re actually complaining about the methods used by their government to quell riots. One kid gets killed and they go ballistic. They’re using molotov cocktails on their police and getting away with it. I can’t believe the Greek army isn’t shooting them down by the hundreds.
If this were now happening in the USA, our government would send in the 20,000 troops now designated for this kind of civil unrest. They’d be using the “Active Denial System” (microwave technology, currently used turn Iraqis into crispy critters), wax bullets, Tasers, truncheons and other fun toys to bludgeon the rioters into total submission and quell the unrest.
If things got really nasty, they’d unload on the populace with the full compliment of convenetional weaponry, up to and including .50 caliber machine guns and M19 grenade launchers.
After imposing Martial Law, crushing the uprising and wasting a few thousand “civilians”, the government would march the surviving miscreants at gunpoint to the trains that would take them to the myriad Halliburton detention camps and refirbished WWII POW camps, now ready and waiting for new residents.
The offenders would be classified as “Unlawful Enemy Combatants” (MCA, 2006), charged with terrorism and tried. In the aftermath of the cookie-cutter Military Commissions that would ensue, the worst offenders would be executed and the remainder would spend the rest of their natural lives breaking rocks in a chain gang, on 1000 calories a day.
This is what is waiting for America.

Osama bin Laden and 19 hijackers carried out the attacks of 9/11. There was no involvement by the US government. There is no inside job. I have absolute proof: Ron Paul says it was Osama, so that’s all there is to it. So just SHUT UP!!!!!!!
