In the wake of President Obama’s order to bring 10,000+ Syrian refugees to the United States in the next year, the White House claims that every single one will be carefully vetted. However, the FBI says there is currently no way of carrying out such a procedure.

This opens the door for extremists to enter the country under the guise of being refugees, as ISIS fighters have already vowed to do.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Thursday that all refugees attempting to enter the US would be “extensively screened.”

However, senior FBI officials have recently said in Congressional testimony the the resources are simply not there to effectively vet every refugee coming into the country from Syria and Iraq.

In addition, the intelligence community cannot easily trace the backgrounds of those entering the country, because no vetting procedures or records exist in the war-torn countries.

The Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Immigration Services currently uses UN lists of refugees who have been determined to be safe candidates for asylum. That screening process takes between 18 and 24 months, however, and is extremely resource heavy.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper described the migration crisis as a “disaster of biblical proportions” Wednesday, and warned that it provides an opportunity for terrorist groups such as ISIS to “infiltrate operatives among these refugees.”

“What we’re trying to do is weed out people who are liars, who are criminals or would-be terrorists,” a senior State Department official added.

Human rights groups have called on the U.S. to accept 65,000 Syrian refugees, while Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to ask Congress to support bringing 30,000 in to the US.

ISIS extremists claimed earlier this year that they would attempt to export 500,000 terrorists under the guise of being refugees.
