‘White vigilantes’ shot black neighbors without consequences in Katrina aftermath

At least 11 black people were shot by white gunmen in the days following Hurricane Katrina’s destruction of New Orleans, and in the three years since those crimes, little has been done by law enforcement.
According to an 18-month investigation published in The Nation, a predominantly white neighborhood formed a militia after the levees broke to simply keep out people who “didn’t belong.”
But the investigation reveals a more sinister outcome: black men suffering brutal and unprovoked attacks from white men armed with shotguns, handguns and even assault rifles.
During the hurricane, the more affluent white residents of Algiers Point refused to help and even got in the way.
“Facing an influx of refugees, the residents of Algiers Point could have pulled together food, water and medical supplies for the flood victims,” according to the article. “Instead, a group of white residents, convinced that crime would arrive with the human exodus, sought to seal off the area, blocking the roads in and out of the neighborhood by dragging lumber and downed trees into the streets.
Several news organizations reported on the neighborhood and one Cox News story called its residents “the ultimate neighborhood watch.”
Because the militia was seen to be protecting itself from black criminals who, it was assumed, would loot in the aftermath of the storm, police have generally not pursued criminal investigations.

Stories like this irk me. Just an attempt to stir the “black and white pot”. Funny how stories such as this are so vague, and lack detailed information, yet there seemed to be someone aware enough of the situation to report on it.

Link contains a YouTube video. The white people interviewed (who were involved) are clearly boasting about this situation, pretty sad and this video clearly shows their nothing more than white-trash (yes, I’m white).
If someone is looting, that’s one thing, but simply wanting to shoot someone for being on your ‘turf”, is no different than the little thug gang-bangers who get sent to prison daily for the exat same things. I’d have to say local authorities were asleep at the wheel.

Why is this all of a sudden coming up now.
I ain’t buying it. If these people, white, black yellow or green, for all that matter were prepared… I can understand their reaction at protecting their efforts. I would not agree with random violence based on racial motivation alone and all I see here is one authors effort to promote such a thought.
While the honorable thing to do is offer assistance when you can… ten people who take the initiative, effort and expend the finances in opreparation for hard times are under no moral or ethical obligation to try and support a hundred people who lived in la-la land neglecting personal responsibility to heed a warning of danger.
Katrina is a prime example of stupidity of the basic human.
I have endured hurricanes… and come to the conclusion .. you make choices. Most people live under such a small roof that they don’t realise that a drive of 100 miles and the expediture of $1000 for a motel room can guarantee a safe outcome.
Even if it means driving that same 100 miles and sleeping in a car… you will not have to recover from self inflicted damage. If your house is going to be flooded or destryed… no human can stop nature at work.
I don’t want to hear the “we they couldn’t or they didn’t have the resources” arguments…
The people of Katrin(by the wya they still are out there) did nothing for themselves.. they are a product of a welfare state with a welfare mentaility still waiting on someone else to do for them what they will not do for themselves.

Even IF this happened – so? The “victims” were warned to stay off of private property and chose to disobey – their mistake. The “victim” class always expect others in society to provide for them, and if they don’t get what they want, they usually just take it. In this case, for once, the good guys resoundingly said, “Hell no!”

Clarification:
After watching the video, I wanted to offer a clarification: If people were shot for refusing to leave private property or during the commission of crimes, I have no problem with that. However, if, as promulgated in the video, individuals were shot just for walking on the wrong side of the tracks, I have serious issues with that scenario. If the latter is the case, the scum that did so deserve whatever may be visited upon them.

Way back in a hollar, miles from anything, is where I have set up my crash escape. Daily I try to influence those around me to start taking measures to protect themselves and their families. Race or color doesn’t matter. I’ve told many of them (mostly white because there are very few to no blacks here) to their faces that if they can’t heed my words of warning now then don’t come looking for a hand out later. In fact I’ve come straight out and said that if they come around when the going gets tough I will shoot them on sight.
They don’t want to hear what I say about surviving the storm but man does that get their attention! Survival of the fittest and best prepared. No quarter aslked. None given.

Please, once again another article to start race bating. The reality on the ground was much different. With in total collapse of order that community had to band together to protect themselves. It is terrible that anyone have to be killed. But if these 11 people were a threat to them they have to run the risk of being shot at. The impression the propagandist want to portay here is that they the community were a band of hilly-billy, redneck, kkk, skinhead, fire-breathing dragons, that were randomly shooting any black person and refusing to help anyone that was non-white.
For you clowns that buy this. Think about it. If you had only 3 days worth of food and it was only enough for your family and you have 100 people knocking on your door regardless if they were black, white, purple or polka-dot. You would have to turn them away. Also you must remember times of crisis many of those said people will not be very civial, in fact they will be quite desperate and maybe quite mean maybe even violent.
So let me ask you what is your solution? Harsh language and calling law (policy) enforcement?

i dont understand what the point of this article is. It seems to me like forming a militia and protecting your property is a good idea in a situation like this. And its funny how theres no mention of the lower class whites, who were pretty much systematically wiped out after the hurricane hit. There is soooo many more documented cases of black on white racism during the aftermath of Katrina thats its almost laughable that infowars posted this article. Forming a militia and defending your property is not a crime, and is most certainly not “racist”, i mean come on, if they were wandering into a predominatly caucasian neighbourhood, its obvious they dont live there and theres a good chance they were there to rob and kill, like many people did during the aftermath.
