Four members of a well-known cartel in Mexico have been taken into custody in connection with the disappearance of 43 students.
An official with the Federal Attorney General’s Office in Mexico said they learned about the four after questioning the leader of the Guerreros Unidos cartel.
The leader was arrested 10 days ago. Since then, authorities have discovered nine more mass graves in the state of Guerrero.
Investigators said the students had a confrontation with local police before they disappeared back in September. They believe several of the local police departments have links to gangs in the area.
Mexico’s attorney general said the mayor of Iguala ordered police to attack the students.
