The city of Sioux City is seeking a judge’s order to allow it to keep operating five of its automated traffic cameras while it appeals an Iowa Department of Transportation order to remove them.

The city believes the traffic cameras improve safety on Interstate 29 and other locations and it should be able to continue operating them until other legal challenges to the IDOT’s traffic camera rules are decided, Assistant City Attorney Justin Vondrak said in the application for injunction, filed Thursday in Woodbury County District Court.

A hearing on the city’s request is set for Tuesday.
