Tuesday’s CBS Late Show studio audience enthusiastically applauded President Trump’s dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, moments before host Stephen Colbert could correct them.

During a taping of the show’s monologue, Colbert was taken aback after he announced breaking news that Trump had fired the FBI director, to which the show’s mainly left-leaning audience broke out into cheers and applause.

“Wow, huge, huge Donald Trump fans here tonight,” Colbert stated, surprised at the reaction.

During the 2016 election, Comey had earned the scorn of establishment Democrats after he announced an October surprise bombshell that the FBI was reopening its investigation into presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Clinton herself also blamed Comey for losing the election, most recently stating that “If the election had been on October 27, I would be your president.”
