GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz has hit out at The Drudge Report, accusing the website of attacking him on a daily basis while supporting the Trump campaign.
Appearing on The Mike Slater Show, Cruz said that while “Drudge Report over the years has done a good job highlighting the excesses of the left,” it is now intent on being an attack mouthpiece for Donald Trump.
“In about the past month, the Drudge Report has basically become the attack site for the Donald Trump campaign,” Cruz said.
“So every day they have the latest Trump attack, they’re directed at me.” the Senator from Texas added.
“Most days they have a six-month-old article that is some attack on me, and it’s whatever the Trump campaign is pushing that day will be the banner headline on Drudge.” Cruz claimed.
“By the way, they no longer cover news,” Cruz continued. “When we win a state, suddenly the state doesn’t matter.”
“You know Colorado, there was no red siren on Drudge when we won all 34 delegates in Colorado.” he also claimed.
Matt Drudge responded by linking to a story highlighting Cruz’s latest comments, along with a link to an interview with Cruz from January where the candidate claimed, “We have got the internet, we have got the Drudge Report.”
Cruz also congratulated Drudge for breaking the mainstream media “stranglehold” on news.
The Washington Post article Drudge linked to is headlined, “Ted Cruz’s war with Matt Drudge could become a huge problem for his campaign.”
The piece notes that “Zignal Labs say the Drudge attacks are breaking through on social media in a significant way,” and that Drudge has largely shaped the response to Cruz’s Colorado win.
