Authorities are investigating after a Travis County deputy constable shot and killed a dog while serving an eviction notice in North Austin on Thursday.

According to a lieutenant with the Travis County Constable’s Office, Senior Deputy Lawrence Edwards was serving the notice on Click Cove near Kramer Lane and Metric Boulevard when a black and white pit bull appeared from a car port and “charged” the officer.

According to the lieutenant, Edwards yelled at the dog to stop, and the dog “lunged” at him, so he shot one round at the dog, killing it.

The lieutenant said the dog, Donny, was not on a leash and was unrestrained by the owner.
