A detention deputy for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office was fired Tuesday for using excessive force on an inmate, according to a release.
Deputy Raymond Ferrio, 47, had been with the Department of Detention and Corrections since July 2000.
At 8 a.m. on Oct. 1 Ferrio was trying to escort an inmate to the infirmary. The inmate, who was in a wheelchair, put his feet down to prevent the deputy from pushing him, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
Ferrio wrapped his arm around the inmate’s neck, pulled him from the wheelchair and dumped him onto the floor, the release said.
