A man who was shot dead over the weekend has been identified as a former chief of staff for the Arizona Senate.

Phoenix police identified the man as Christopher Smith, 51, who was chief of staff for the Senate in the 1990s until 2000.
He was found inside a vehicle Saturday night in the 1000 block of South 18th Avenue with gunshot wounds, authorities said.
