A new Harvard university study shows that what the President refers to as the ‘fake media’ is overwhelmingly bias against him in its coverage.
The Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy, based out of Harvard, collated statistics from media coverage ranging across 10 mainstream television news networks, as well as print newspapers.
The results, they discovered, were startling
The study found that some of those media organisations broached stories about Trump with a negative tone in up to 98% of reports.
The study focused on coverage from CNN, NBC, CBS, Fox News, the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal in the US.
Overseas media coverage was also analysed, including coverage from the BBC, the Financial Times and German TV news channel ARD.
The study found that in every single instance, the coverage was overwhelmingly more negative than positive.
Even Fox News’ coverage, which caters to conservative viewers and has been praised by Trump, was negative more often.
When specific topics were analyzed, the study found that negative coverage still hugely outweighed any positive angles.
On the subjects of immigration, healthcare, and Russia, more than 85% of reports were negative.
Only on the topic of the economy was there more of an even balance, with 54% negative reports and 46% positive.
Most interestingly, there was only one subject where Trump was given overwhelming positive coverage… the missile attack against Syria, where approximately 80% of all reports were positive.
Because, of course, war and bombing is good for the news business.
The study also found that Trump has received way more negative coverage than any of his recent predecessors, overall having 80% negative coverage.
It found that in contrast, Obama received almost 60% positive coverage during his first 100 days. Here’s a reminder of how the media fawned over the former dear leader, courtesy MRC:
