On Sunday Xinhua reported the Syrian Army is in a deadlock battle with IS in the northern province of Hasaka.
SANA, the Syrian state news agency, said the army inflicted heavy losses on the IS and destroyed its weaponry.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a one man anti-Assad operation run by Rami Abdelrahman and reportedly working with U.S.-funded NGOs, meanwhile reports IS stormed the Mailabiyeh Regiment base in Hasaka.
Earlier today an IS website, News of the Ummah, posted a number of photographs showing a large cache of weapons allegedly captured by IS troops at the Syrian military base.
Here is a sample:
If genuine the photos are evidence of IS’ growing inventory of weapons, including heavy artillery and tanks.
Last week we reported on the capture of a large number of U.S. weapons in Iraq by the group. The haul included more than 50 155mm M-198 artillery batteries and 4,000 PKC machine guns.
“The booty could help ISIL transform into a military,” an official told World Tribune on Tuesday.
