Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal revealed that a school teacher jumped in front of a co-worker to shield her during a shooting at a Lafayette movie theater. Another teacher was able to pull the fire alarm to alert authorities, despite being wounded.
“Her friend literally jumped over her, and in her account actually saved her life,” Jindal said at a press conference, after he visited with victims at a hospital. “If she hadn’t done that … that bullet, she believed it would have hit her in the head.”
A shooting last night left three people, including the gunman dead and nine other people wounded. Both teachers were shot but one was able to pull the fire alarm.
“Even though she was shot in the leg, she had the presence of mind to pull the fire alarm to help save other lives,” Jindal said.
One of the teachers was released and the other remains in the hospital.
The identity of the shooter has not been released but authorities are reporting he is dead from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. The movie “Trainwreck” was playing in the theater and more than 100 people were watching at the time of the shooting. Authorities do not know the motive of the shooter.
