By standing up for Donald Trump when the establishment media went against him, media pioneer Matt Drudge has reignited independent journalism in which everyday Americans are just as important as the New York Times.
Twenty years ago, Drudge correctly surmised the mainstream media would grow so attached to the establishment that it would soon become irrelevant.
That irrelevancy came into fruition during the 2016 election when tens of thousands of establishment reporters shed all objectivity to destroy Trump, but all they’ve done is destroy themselves.
“Any objective observer of the news media’s treatment of Trump can certainly conclude that reporters are taking a side in this election — and they don’t have to be wearing a button that says ‘I’m with her’ for this to be readily apparent,” LA Times contributor Justin Raimondo wrote. “The irony is that the media’s Trump bashing may wind up having the exact opposite of its intended effect.”
The establishment media relied on their “influence” to try to convince Americans to support Hillary Clinton without realizing their influence disappeared when they abandoned forgotten Americans to cozy up with DC insiders.
In time, respected careers in journalism mutated into mere stepping stones for lucrative positions with lobbying firms and politicians who were shutting down American factories and shipping jobs overseas.
It’s no surprise then that media polls and projections about the presidential race were wrong: the establishment media’s bias prevented them from reporting fact from fiction, and the American public knew it.
Now trust in the mainstream media is at an all-time low – and anything the media’s for, the public’s against.
Who, then, is left to speak for the isolated and abandoned? It’s Matt Drudge and the citizen journalists he amplifies whose spotlight on political corruption forced the mainstream media to cover the news – and by default the truth.
“The news mogul, one of the most mysterious individuals in the media industry, operates entirely outside the New York City and Washington, D.C., apparatus. He is seemingly accountable to no one,” reported Business Insider’s Oliver Darcy. “He is rarely spotted in public and holds close company with only a few select people.”
“Yet despite his reclusiveness, Drudge holds a firm grip on the conservative news cycle. As the founder and operator of the Drudge Report, he influences and often creates news narratives.”
Traffic to the Drudge Report and alternative media outlets exploded in popularity during the last stages of the election, and that reveals the mainstream media is now dying.
“We have entered an era vibrating with the din of small voices,” Drudge once said. “Every citizen can be a reporter, can take on the powers that be.”
