RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. — Patrol cars used by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office are now sporting “In God We Trust” decals thanks to a local church which pitched in to help buy them.
Local media outlets report that Sheriff Chris Francis wanted to use the decals as a way of showing patriotism. Francis said he made the decision to put the emblems on after Fairview Baptist Church of Golden Valley volunteered to pay for them.
Francis couldn’t be reached Friday for additional comment.
Fairview Baptist Pastor David Ledford told Francis the church wanted to support the project by funding the purchase. Ledford said the church would continue to fund this project as new marked vehicles were added to the fleet. He said the sheriff told him decals would go on 50 marked patrol cars.
