As a first step towards a manned Mars mission by 2030, NASA prepared a six member team for an eight month stay in a dome-shaped building on a Hawaiian volcano.
The project, known as Hi-Seas (Hawaiian Space Exploration Analog and Simulation) is part of a study backed by NASA to check the precincts of sustainable living on a Hawaiian volcano.

The project is designed to check how well people who are secluded can coordinate to work together coherently and find out their requirements to survive on the Red Planet.
