NBC4 LA projected California Senate Incumbent Barbara Boxer as the winner during its midterm election coverage at a point when Boxer had fewer votes than her opponent Carly Fiorina.
At two different points in the night– with 17% and 20% respectively– NBC4 Los Angeles projected a Barbara Boxer win while simultaneously displaying a graphic that claimed she had lower numbers than her opponent Carly Fiorina.
•Boxer was projected as the winner with 17% of the vote returned when NBC4 reported:
–BOXER HAD 47% AND 1,246,965 VOTES while
–FIORINA HAD 48% AND 1,247,935 VOTES
•Boxer was again projected as the winner with 20% of the vote returned. With these updated numbers, NBC4 claimed Boxer would win with:
–BOXER AT 47% AND 1,414,936 VOTES and
–FIORINA AT 48% AND 1,434,410 VOTES.
By contrast, the same network footage shows that Jerry Brown was not projected as winner in the Governor’s race with 17% of the vote returned even when he had more votes than his opponent (though he was later projected to win at 20% when he led by even more votes).

Why would they project Boxer as the winner BEFORE she had more votes accounted for? Was this a mistake at the network, or did they have ways of knowing Boxer would ultimately win? An NBC4 anchor pointed out the contradiction in the graphic displaying Fiorina as leading, but projected Boxer as winner nonetheless.
The network anchor then hastily announced that Boxer now had 48%, adding “although that shows Carly Fiorina on top there.”
With Boxer now reportedly 1% ahead, the media suddenly declared her to be the winner, despite the fact that well under 50% of the vote had been counted and the race was still well within the margins for error.
Yet, unedited video demonstrates that coverage shifted immediately to the Boxer campaign celebration with the announcement that word of her victory had spread and a declaration from Boxer was imminent. Further, they stopped showing detailed numbers once the ‘totality’ of the victory was ascertained.
However, Fiorina spoke first, declaring the race ‘too close to call.’ She did not concede, claiming that only 36% of the vote had been counted and it was a “dead heat tie.” After a few moments, NBC4 and other networks cut to Sen. Boxer who rapidly declared decisively that she had won another term.
This bizarre coordination and sudden announcement needs to be looked at further. We know electronic voting machines can be manipulated and have been in other elections. Simple programs can be used to “flip” votes and produce the desired results of the programmer. Could this have happened in the case of Boxer’s sudden and decisive victory? Obviously, only further investigation can give an answer.

There is already strong evidence to suggest voter fraud does need to be investigated in the case of another high-powered Democrat, Senator Harry Reid, who won his race 5 points ahead of Sharron Angle despite a different trend in the polls leading up to the election. No stone should be unturned, and all suspicious voting behavior should be investigated.
