US President Barack Obama has left Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi hanging during an outdoor session of the G7 summit in Germany, according to a video.
The video shows the US president was talking with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde when the Iraqi premier came and sat next to Obama.
The Iraqi official was waiting to have a word with the US president, but Obama stood up and continued his talks.
It was not clear in the video whether Obama was aware of Abadi’s presence.
Moments later, the Iraqi leader looked at his watch and walked away with his translator.
President Obama is in Germany for the G7 summit and discussed Middle East problems, the conflict in Ukraine, and the Greek debt crisis with world leaders.
During a speech on Monday, Obama acknowledged that his country does not have a “complete strategy” in pushing back the ISIL terrorist group in Iraq and Syria.
“We don’t yet have a complete strategy because it requires commitments on the part of the Iraqis as well about how that recruitment takes place, how that training takes place,” he said, adding that “some progress” has been made but it was “not enough.”
