It will be warmer today in Syracuse than in Los Angeles. Or Las Vegas. Or San Diego.

An El Niño-fueled heat wave across the Northeast is already shattering high temperature records. Syracuse broke the record for the warmest Christmas Eve by 4 a.m., when the thermometer hit 63.

The forecast high for today is 67. That’s almost double the normal high of 34.

By contrast, Los Angeles will likely not get any warmer today than 62. San Diego will be just 63, and in Las Vegas, they’ll be shivering at 56.
