The Texas Senate voted to approve House Bill 910, which would allow open carry in Texas, during a late evening session Friday.
The bill passed the Senate 20-11. The House passed a nearly identical version of the bill earlier this session, and the House will need to approve the Senate’s version of the bill before it goes to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk.
A move made by the Senate earlier this week blocked police from checking if people carrying openly have a handgun license. The amendment was added back onto the bill before it was passed.
The bill does not include campus carry, but Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said in a statement Friday that the Senate considered attaching campus carry to the bill.
