The website Politifact is waging a battle against reality.

Yesterday, the fact-checking site known for weighing the accuracy of political claims rated a statement from the Texas Right to Life campaign as only “half true,” even though Politifact’s own research determined the statement to indeed be “true.”

Politifact was checking the veracity of a claim made in an email blast from the pro-life campaign, which said in part, “University of Texas students ‘signed a petition seeking the legal right to abort newborn babies up to five-years-old.’”

A video report shot by Infowars reporter Joe Biggs last month completely validates Texas Right to Life’s statement.

In the report, students from the University of Texas are witnessed voluntarily signing a mock petition seeking the legalization of “post-birth abortion,” which read:

“Please support the Post-Birth Abortion Act of 2014. This is to emphasize that the moral status of the newborn baby is comparable with that of a fetus … rather than that of a child. Therefore, we claim that killing a newborn could be ethically permissible in all the circumstances where abortion would be. This post-birth abortion can take place until a newborn is self aware or reaches 5 years old. This act is supported by numerous scientists and medical doctors as a safe and effective way to preserve the quality of life.”

Politifact attempted to debunk the anti-abortion group’s claim by seeking out some of the students that signed and asking them if they actually supported the notion.

Three out of four students questioned said they signed without giving thought to what the petition was actually advocating.

One of those three insisted she “felt obligated to sign because I had already been handed the petition.”

Another student reasoned that if “the child’s already born, then aborting the child is kind of wrong.” Murdering an infant, according to the student, is not entirely wrong, just “kind of.”

However, the fourth student, Stephanie Forsberg, “said she signed the petition and does support the concept, for ‘complicated’ reasons,” according to Politifact.

Despite video evidence showing students actually signing the petition, Politifact only gave Texas Right to Life’s statement its “half-truth” rating, two notches below “true,” and two notches away from being “false” on its six-tier rating system.

Evidently Politifact is attempting to help the University of Texas and the pro-abortion crowd save face, but even more disturbing than the site’s obfuscation of the truth is the fact that legalizing post-birth abortion has actually been seriously proposed by the medical establishment and sponsored by members of Planned Parenthood.

In 2012, a University of Melbourne study published in the Journal of Medical Ethics argued that “after-birth abortion (killing a newborn baby) should be permissible, including in cases where the newborn is not disabled.”

And Florida state legislators were shocked last year when “Alisa LaPolt Snow, the lobbyist representing the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, testified that her organization believes the decision to kill an infant who survives a failed abortion should be left up to the woman seeking an abortion and her abortion doctor,” reported The Weekly Standard.
