Authorities in Abu Dhabi have announced that unvaccinated adults will be banned from shopping malls, restaurants, colleges and other places from August 20 onwards.
“The committee stated [that] the decision would enhance safety in areas that have been subject to additional precautionary measures and provide enhanced protection for community members,” the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office said in a statement.
Supermarkets and pharmacies will be two of the limited places that remain accessible to the non-vaccinated.
“They will also be barred from gyms, recreational facilities, health clubs, resorts, museums, cultural centers, theme parks, universities, institutes, public and private schools, and nurseries,” reports Zero Hedge.
The United Arab Emirates has the highest vaccination rate in the world, although it is currently experiencing pockets of COVID cases, with 2,000 new infections reported on Monday.
This is yet another indication that while insisting the vaccine remains voluntary, those who refuse or are unable to take it will remain under de facto lockdown measures in perpetuity.
This creates a two tier system in society where those who don’t take the jab face discrimination and the inability to engage in basic lifestyle or social activities.
As we highlighted yesterday, facial recognition cameras that authorities claim can “detect COVID-19” are also being installed in shopping malls and even residential areas throughout Abu Dhabi.
After a trial involving 20,000 participants, the government said the cameras had a 93.5% accuracy in identifying infected individual.
