An Afghan migrant was arrested in Berlin on Saturday after initiating a series of assaults against fellow passengers on the city’s public transport.
The incident occurred at around noon on Berlin’s S42 Ringbahn near Innsbrucker Platz in the Schöneberg district.
The Berliner Zeitung reported how a 24-year-old Afghan citizen confronted a man and demanded he stop using his mobile phone.
When the passenger ignored him, the man reportedly spat on him and kicked him. The victim disembarked at Schöneberg train station to avoid further confrontation.
Following this, a 24-year-old mother intervened and asked the perpetrator to calm down and be quieter due to the presence of children on the train. In response, the man allegedly insulted the woman and spat on her two young children.
Witnesses quickly alerted the authorities, and the emergency brake was pulled at Südkreuz station. Although the attacker initially managed to flee the scene, federal police officers, acting on a tip from bystanders, apprehended him shortly after.
The police secured video footage of the incident and have opened an investigation into the case, focusing on charges of bodily harm and insults.
The suspect, who was already known to the police, was temporarily detained but has since been released.
