Outgoing Attorney General William Barr announced he won’t appoint a special counsel to investigate election fraud OR Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden.
During a Monday morning press conference announcing charges against the terrorist who perpetrated the Pan Am flight 103 bombing in 1988, Barr said he’s “not going to” name an election fraud special counsel because he still hasn’t seen evidence of “systemic” fraud.
“There are fraud in, unfortunately, most elections. I think we’re too tolerant of it, and I’m sure there was fraud in this election,” Barr said. “But I was commenting on the extent to which we looked at suggestions or allegations of systemic or broad-based fraud that would affect the outcome of the election and I already spoke to that and I stand by that statement.”
“If I thought a special counsel at this stage was the right tool, I would name one, but I haven’t and I’m not going to.”
When Barr was asked whether he would consider appointing a special counsel against Hunter Biden over his shady Ukraine and China deals tied to his father, Barr answered in the negative.
“I think to the extent that there’s an investigation, I think that it’s being handled responsibly and professionally currently within the department,” Barr said.
“And to this point, I have not seen a reason to appoint a special counsel and I have no plan to do so before I leave.”
Instead, Barr explained the charges against former Libyan intelligence officer Abu Agila Masud for bombing Pan Am flight 103 in Scotland over 30 years ago, which killed 270 people.
President Trump had announced last week that Barr would step down as Attorney General before Christmas, and included his letter of resignation.
