Infowars radio host Alex Jones suggested he could be heading to Washington DC next week as the new Trump administration settles into power.
“I have been invited to come next week. Should I go to DC?” Jones posted to X Tuesday evening, replying to an X user who wrote, “Imagine if Alex Jones gets a White House Press Pass…”
Jones’ post sparked interest following White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s comments Tuesday that citizen and independent journalists would now be welcomed at press briefings.
“[I]n keeping with this revolutionary media approach that President Trump deployed during the campaign, the Trump White House will speak to all media outlets and personalities, not just the legacy media who are seated in this room…” Leavitt told reporters at her first press briefing.
“Millions of Americans, especially young people, have turned from traditional television outlets and newspapers to consume their news from podcasts, blogs, social media, and other independent outlets.”
“We’re also opening up this briefing room to new media voices who produce news-related content and whose outlet is not already represented by one of the seats in this room. We welcome independent journalists, podcasters, social media influencers, and content creators to apply for credentials to cover this White House,” she added.
It’s unclear who invited Jones, whether he’s actually going, or whether he will appear at a press briefing.
Speculation the Infowars founder could soon join the Trump briefing room follows past comments from Donald Trump Jr., who once floated the notion of Jones serving a temporary stint as press secretary in his father’s potential cabinet.
“Alex Jones… Again, there’s a couple people I want to put in as press secretary for like a month, two weeks to a month. That’d be where Laura Loomer would fit in for that one. Again, Alex Jones for a month, just to put these idiots in their place,” Don Jr. said on his Triggered podcast in Dec. 2023.
The president’s eldest son noted he’d be attacked by fake news for discussing Jones as press secretary, but remarked someone with Jones’ disposition and track record has to put the media in its place.
“I’m not saying he’s got everything right and this one will be controversial and the nonsense, the clickbait, fake news rags, raw story and media matters and all these liars. ‘Oh my God, Donald Trump Jr. said this is what we got to do. Click here for nonsense.’ These guys will do that. But Alex Jones for a month would put these people in his place,” Don. Jr. said.
“I’m not saying he’s got everything right, but man, he’s been a lot more right over the last decade or so than anyone in our mainstream media,” he continued. “And I can say that with effect, and I’ll get criticized for it, but that’s reality. He has been far more right than our mainstream media on the vast majority of things that are out there. So prepare for the clickbait hit pieces.”
Jones responded to Don Jr.’s suggestion saying, “Sounds like a lot of fun! I officially accept the offer to be Trumps new press secretary! Looking forward fighting fake news from the White House!”
