As those in western Florida are still picking up the pieces from Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton is set to make landfall in the same area late Wednesday into early Thursday. It is forecast to be ‘at least’ a Category 3 storm at that time.
Importantly, Milton is expected to increase to a Category 4 storm before weakening to a Category 3 storm when it makes landfall. This will cause the storm to still inflict Category 4 flooding.
This is the most critical point for anyone in the storms path to understand and it cannot be emphasized enough:

Even if #Milton weakens from category 4 to 3 status before landfall – the storm surge will STILL be category 4 levels.#tropics #Florida #HurricaneMilton pic.twitter.com/95gendGGoL
The storm’s path is expected to cut across central Florida from west to east.
