Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has repeatedly claimed she was almost killed during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

AOC’s latest claim came Monday in an Instagram video where she described how she thought she was “going to die” and had to hide in her bathroom after hearing banging on her door.

“This was the moment where I thought everything was over,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “In between the screams and the yells, I mean, I thought I was going to die.”

AOC made the same claims a week after the riot, even blaming Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for almost “having her murdered.”

“I can tell you that I had a very close encounter where I thought I was going to die,” said Ocasio-Cortez, adding that she couldn’t get into specifics due to security reasons.

“I did not know if I was going to make it to the end of that day alive. Not just in a general sense, but in a very, very specific sense.”

But as it turns out, AOC was NOT EVEN INSIDE the Capitol building, she was in her office, inside the Cannon House Office Building south of the Capitol grounds.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), whose office is down the hallway from AOC’s, called out her lies on Tuesday, arguing that protesters never stormed the hallway and that the knocking on the door was simply law enforcement trying to move them to safety.

“@AOC made clear she didn’t know who was at her door. Breathless attempts by media to fan fictitious news flames are dangerous,” Mace said.

“My office is 2 doors down. Insurrectionists never stormed our hallway. Egregious doesn’t even begin to cover it. Is there nothing MSM won’t politicize?”

Video from the Cannon House office during the riot also contradicts AOC’s claims she was in physical danger.

Red State sums it up:

So her “near-death experience” was an overreaction to a Capitol Police officer knocking on her door to direct her to another building, the Longworth Building, where she then stayed in the office of Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA). Instead of thanking the officer, she paints him as somehow a possible danger of which to be afraid. The Capitol Police were likely trying to evacuate the building quickly, it’s possible the officer was focused on getting people out quickly so likely didn’t have time for all the niceties.

At best, AOC is being melodramatic, and at worst she’s outright lying. But don’t expect the mainstream media to get to the bottom of it, especially when the left can use AOC’s tall tales to politically bludgeon conservatives.
