Former Obama adviser David Axelrod poured cold water on the Democrats’ newfound enthusiasm for Kamala Harris, warning that former President Donald Trump still “has the advantage.”
In an interview Sunday with CNN’s “Newsroom Live”, Axelrod began by claiming Trump may not want to debate Harris because she’s “younger and more agile” than Joe Biden.
“His whole message has been built for two years now around strength. He’s strong. He’s the guy who can handle these problems, and so on, and now he’s got a younger and more agile opponent when it comes to debating, and he doesn’t want to debate. I don’t know that it’s a great look for him. I do think at the end of the day, he may feel he has to debate,” he said.
He continued, “I think there’s a justifiable sense of concern in his camp that this thing could get away from him. It may be their race to lose, but it’s a race, so it could be lost, which is something they didn’t feel when they left that convention in Milwaukee.”
But Axelrod cautioned Democrats to remain grounded about their chances in November, noting that this honeymoon period for Harris driven by the mainstream media was just a relief from the “despair” they had about Joe Biden after his terrible debate performance.
“There’s a lot of irrational exuberance on the Democratic side of the aisle right now because there was despair for some period of time about what November was going to look like,” Axelrod said.
“Now, people feel like there’s a chance. But it’s absolutely Trump’s race to lose right now. He is ahead, and he is ahead in most of the battleground states. They’re close; they can be won by either candidate.”
“I think it’s a wide-open race, but Trump has the advantage right now, and everybody should be sober about that on the Democratic side,” he concluded.
Now that Harris is the Democrat standard bearer, the media and Democrats have been working overtime gaslighting the American people that she is a moderate and intelligence alternative to Biden heading into the general election.
But despite the media’s fawning attitude toward her, Harris still hasn’t participated in a single interview since she was coronated, and one Democrat strategist even claimed she shouldn’t do any interviews leading up to the election.
Harris has also refused to agree to debate Trump on Fox News, instead twisting it around claiming Trump backed off a scheduled ABC News debate with her — when actually it was scheduled with Joe Biden, who was forced out by the Democrat Party.
