A foreign fugitive wanted for murder in his home country of Brazil has been arrested in the sanctuary state of Massachusetts.

On Tuesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the recent apprehension of the South American illegal alien but chose to withhold his name “due to privacy issues.”

The Brazilian entered the U.S. in March of 2024 but violated the terms of his admission by failing to leave the country.

In June, authorities in Minas Gerais, Brazil, issued an arrest warrant for the man under suspicion of murder.

On Dec. 31, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston officers caught the Brazilian at his residence in Fall River, a city in Bristol County near the Rhode Island border.

He is being held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.

“This Brazilian national has been accused of murder in Brazil,” ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde said in a statement.

“ERO Boston will not allow Fall River or any other Massachusetts community to become a safe haven for international fugitives, and we are committed to tracking down accused criminals who put our residents at risk.”
