After being asked what would it take for him to reevaluate staying in the 2024 election, President Joe Biden said would consider dropping out if a “medical condition” emerged and doctors told him he had a problem.
“If I had some medical condition that emerged, if somebody, if doctors came to me and said, you got this problem and that problem,” said Biden to BET’s Ed Gordon in preview of an interview expected to air at 10 pm Eastern Wednesday.

Biden continued, reminding the audience that he always regarded himself as a “transitional candidate” and the recent presidential debate against former President Trump was a “mistake.”
“I made a serious mistake in the whole debate … and look, when I originally ran, you may remember it, I said I was going to be a transitional candidate. And I thought that I’d be able to move from this to passing it on to someone else. But I didn’t anticipate things getting so so so divided.
And quite frankly, I think the only thing age brings is a little bit of wisdom and I think I’ve demonstrated that I know how to get things done for the country in spite of the fact we were told we couldn’t get it done.
But there’s more to do, and I’m reluctant to walk away from that.”
The timing of Biden’s admission is on the heels of Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Burbank) saying it’s time for the president to “pass the torch” due to serious concerns of him being unable to beat Trump in November.
Schiff’s full statement can be read below.
Just this morning, CNN reported Trump has a “visible path” to secure 330 electoral votes this November, meaning a landslide victory.
“You look at this map as it plays out, and there are Democrats making the case…There are Democrats making the case that Donald Trump is on a viable path, as of today, to get to 330 electoral votes…or even higher,” said CNN’s John King. “[Biden’s] approval rating, his ballot number, people’s views about how old he is, and… people who view the state of the economy are very bad for the president right now.”
“Donald Trump is in command. The numbers are getting worse for the President.”
