The Canadian government has officially designated the Proud Boys as a terrorist group on Wednesday.
The Canadian government made the decision after dispatching intelligence agencies to surveil “white supremacist and neo-Nazi” groups for weeks following the Capitol riot last month, according to the Toronto Star.

The Proud Boys came under increased scrutiny after the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol Building. News reports identified several Proud Boys members among the mob of Donald Trump supporters.
But sources told the Star last week that Canada’s intelligence agencies have been probing white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups for several months.
Public Safety Minister Bill Blair’s office said last month that intelligence and law enforcement entities were “very actively” monitoring far-right and white supremacist groups.
“We strongly denounce ideologically motivated extremists including groups like the Proud Boys, white supremacists, (anti-Semites), Islamophobic and misogynist groups,” Blair’s office said in a January statement.
“Intolerance and hate have no place in our society.”
Notably, Blair failed to mention Antifa, a far more prominent “ideologically motivated extremist” left-wing group in Canada.
The Star added that known Proud Boys members will likely be subject to harsh consequences in Canada, including having their property seized and assets frozen.
“The terrorist designation comes with significant consequences for the group’s members and supporters. It would allow financial institutions to freeze assets, empower police to seize property, and make it illegal to knowingly participate or contribute to the organization,” The Star reported.
The Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio was arrested shortly after the Capitol riot on Jan. 6 despite being away from the Capitol at the time of the riot.

This comes as numerous Democrat politicians and media figures are openly calling for all Trump supporters to be labeled by Department of Homeland Security as terrorists as they prepare to unconstitutionally impeach Donald Trump for “inciting an insurrection” at the Capitol.
The FBI already designated the Proud Boys as an “extremist group” in 2018, indicating the group would receive a higher level of law enforcement scrutiny.
