Canadian Politician Who May Replace Trudeau Wants Europe’s Nuclear Powers to Defend it Against The US

The U.S. has not planned to attack Canada for almost 100 years, ever since the U.S. military's War Plan Red didn't go operational. That war plan was expected to be triggered over trade disputes with the U.K. Interestingly, the current hostilities between the U.S. and Canada come as trade disputes are once again arising between these powers.

Freeland sees British and French nuclear weapons as assets which could be effective in a potential battle against the U.S., a battle which she apparently anticipates will be a nuclear war. She hopes Britain and France will enter into new defense agreements with Denmark which may entail nuclear weapon system deployments in Greenland to strike targets in the U.S. if need be.

During debates for the leadership of Canada’s Liberal Party on Wednesday, former Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, who is now running to replace Canadian ‘Governor’ Justin Trudeau, urged the country’s government to turn to Western Europe’s nuclear powers to defend it against the United States despite the U.S. not having any plans to invade it since the 1930’s when it devised Joint Army and Navy Basic War Plan Red.

”What is different about this unleashed and empowered President Trump is he is clearly threatening our sovereignty and we need to respond,” Freeland said. “The U.S. is turning predator, and so what Canada needs to do is work closely with our democratic allies, our military allies.”

Freeland finds President Donald Trump’s interest in Greenland alarming. Notably, Denmark’s Arctic possession Greenland, if purchased by Trump, will allow a U.S. pincer attack on the British Commonwealth in North America.

”I would start with our Nordic partners, specifically Denmark which is also being threatened, and our European NATO allies,” she said.

Freeland sees British and French nuclear weapons as assets which could be effective in a potential battle against the U.S., a battle which she apparently anticipates will be a nuclear war. She hopes Britain and France will enter into new defense agreements with Denmark which may entail (based on her word choice of ‘were there’) nuclear weapon system deployments in Greenland to strike targets in the U.S. if need be.

”I would be sure that France and Britain were there who possess nuclear weapons, and I would be working urgently with those partners to build a closer security relationship that guarantees our security in a time when the United States can be a threat,” she promised.

Freeland criticized her potential predecessor Trudeau by claiming he does not take Trump’s ‘threats’ seriously. Freeland’s agenda will likely increase Canada’s military readiness in preparation for potential future kinetic conflicts, which she is already including the nuclear element in.

Notably, Canada is one of the world’s largest producers of uranium and it operates numerous nuclear reactors. The country claims its uranium can only be used for ‘peaceful’ purposes. The Canadian military was equipped with nuclear weapons from 1964 to 1984, although it voluntarily relinquished them. Canada does however maintain the technological capability to develop nuclear weapons.

Trump plans to erect a ballistic missile shield over the U.S., although it was never stated that its purpose is specifically for future Canadian missile attacks against U.S. targets.

The U.S. military has already prepared for a conflict with Britain and its possession Canada, culminating in War Plan Red in 1930. This conflict was expected to be triggered over trade disputes with the U.K.

Interestingly, the current hostilities between the U.S. and Canada come as trade disputes are once again arising, as the U.S. begins economic cooptation discussions with Russia over Arctic resources and navigation routes, while the U.S. is also voting with Russia and not the U.K. in recent United Nations resolutions.

“The most likely scenario that might lead to a naval clash was if Britain went to war with another country while the U.S. continued to trade with it. The British would try and stop any ships believed to be heading to its enemy, but if they were American ships, possibly with an armed convoy, this risked provocation and an outbreak of hostilities,” History Extra said about the U.S. military’s War Plan Red. “What’s more, the colossal war debt that Britain owed the U.S. had fueled increasing frustrations on both sides.”

This new geopolitical ‘split’ highlights the ongoing degradation and disintegration of the post-WWII global order between the U.S. and Western Europe.
