Trump running mate J.D. Vance’s microphone was cut off during the vice presidential debate Tuesday, as he attempted to correct a false statement by CBS moderators claiming Haitians in Springfield are legally residing in the United States.

After initially claiming they would not be fact-checking candidates, moderator Margaret Brennan quickly interjected, “Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio, does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status.”

At this point, Vance jumped in and tried to correct the record, pointing out Joe Biden’s administration via its CBP One app, and under “border czar” Kamala Harris, had facilitated a wave of illegals who were granted “Temporary Legal Status.”

“I think it’s important because the rules were that you guy’s weren’t going to fact-check, and since you’re fact-checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on,” Vance stated, despite moderators trying to stop him from continuing.

“So there’s an application called the CBP One app, where you can go on as an illegal migrant apply for asylum or apply for parole and be granted legal status at the wave of a Kamala Harris open-border wand.”

“That is not a person coming in applying for a green card and waiting for 10 years — and Kamala Harris opened up that pathway,” Vance clarified as he was cut off.

Chiming in, Minn. Gov. Tim Walz attempted to claim, “It’s been on the books since 1990,” before getting shut down by Vance, who corrected him saying, “That app has not been on the books since 1990. It’s something that Kamala Harris created.”

At this point, both candidates mics were cut as the moderators attempted to regain control.

The moderators’ censorship of the GOP candidate was dubbed “shameful” by the New York Post editorial board.

“This was the most shameful moment in a long history of shameful moments by moderators biased against Republicans. They ‘fact-checked’ the truth, then stopped the politician from responding,” the board wrote in a piece Wednesday.

In a bizarre virtual fact-check on social media, CBS News also claimed Vance’s label of Kamala Harris as “border czar” was false, despite numerous media outlets including CBS frequently referring to her as such.

Trump’s running mate delivered such a commanding performance at Tuesday’s debate that he was able to emerge victorious even against a three-versus-one matchup.
