A clear majority of American voters support deportation of illegal immigrants.

According to a new survey of likely voters in the 2026 general election, 63.5% support deporting illegal immigrants back to their country of origin. Close to 31% said they did not and just under 6% said they weren’t sure.

The likely voters were asked, “Do you support or oppose deporting those illegally in the United States back to their country of origin?”

Among Republicans and independents, there was a broad consensus in support of deportation, at 90% and 61% respectively.

Most opposition comes, unsurprisingly, from Democrats. Fifty-five percent of Democrats opposed deporting illegal immigrants and only 27% support it.

Perhaps most importantly, a majority of swing voters—66%—also support deportations. Thirty-percent of that majority “strongly” support deportations.

An even half of all black voters and 43% of Hispanic voters also support deporting illegals.

The survey was taken between 6 May and 8 May among 1,500 likely general election voters.

The strong public support for deportation comes as the US Supreme Court ruled to keep a block on President Trump’s deportation of gang members using the 1798 Alien Enemies Act.

Justices agreed that the president could rely on the centuries-old wartime law to remove immigrants from the country—provided they first have an opportunity to challenge those claims in court—and then temporarily blocked the government from deporting another group of Venezuelans in Texas while their lawyers scrambled to challenge the allegations against them.

In response to the ruling, President Trump said on Truth Social, “THE SUPREME COURT WON’T ALLOW US TO GET CRIMINALS OUT OF OUR COUNTRY!”

In a further, longer, post, he described the ruling as a “bad and dangerous day for America!”

“The Supreme Court of the United States is not allowing me to do what I was elected to do,” he said.
