A horrific scene unfolded at the Arizona State University West Valley campus last week, after a student stabbed another student multiple times as she walked into a classroom.
According to reports, student Mara Daffron, 19, was entering a classroom on Sept. 19 when fellow student Kaci Sloan, 19, got up and proceeded to stab her twice “without provocation or any words spoken.”
At this point, sophomore Matthew McCormick intervened and was able to stop Sloan from allegedly stabbing Daffron a third time.
“As she was going for a third attack, I was able to grab her wrists and apprehend her before further damage could be done,” McCormick recounted, according to Fox 10 Phoenix.
Daffron underwent surgery after sustaining injuries to her tricep, ribcage, and spleen.
“Mara was stabbed several times, but luckily, she is making great progress and is on the mend,” an update on crowdfunding site GoFundMe reads.
While police are still investigating a motive, Sloan admitted she’d been having violent thoughts and had planned the attack prior.
“The defendant admitted she came to class to hurt somebody and was planning the attack since the night prior,” court documents obtained by 12News.com state. “This planning included placing the knife used in the attack in her backpack to bring to school. The defendant told detectives she knew the victim’s first name but did not know anything else about her. She knew the victim from a prior class and shared a class with her this semester.”
The report went on to describe Daffron was one of two individuals Sloan had targeted, but that she was only chosen because the suspect “believed the victim was an easier target,” while the other target was “a veteran.”
Additionally, Sloan told police she’d felt “disgusted” by thoughts of hurting people, but the night before the attack she’d had thoughts “that caused her to believe by hurting someone her problems ‘would go away.'”
Sloan is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct with a weapon, and is being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond. First-degree attempted murder was initially considered as a potential charge.
Many social media users expressed outrage over the stabbing, with some suspecting the mainstream media would downplay or ignore the story due to its inconvenient racial implications.

Sloan reportedly targeted Mara because she was "an easy target."
You didn't hear about this on the MSM because it doesn't fit the narrative.
Mara is currently in the hospital.… pic.twitter.com/Vwz4ijwxpy
There's nothing "random" about this attack. Whoever Kaci Sloan attacked would have been white. This was a deliberate racially motivated attack, just like so many others. Maybe Mara will get a visit from the DoJ's Community Relations Service when she wakes up… https://t.co/v5VzPRh0Pa
