Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Sunday directed all civilian DoD personnel to provide an email to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) explaining what they accomplished last week in 5 bullet points.

“I am now directing each member of the department’s civilian federal workforce to provide 5 bullets of what they accomplished last week and comply with OPM’s email directive,” Hegseth wrote on X with an accompanying video statement.

In the video statement, Hegseth recapped how he had last week ordered an initial “pause” for civilian personnel to provide the email to OPM pending a Pentagon procedural review.

“It’s a simple task. Really, as Elon [Musk] said, as the president recognized in our first Cabinet meeting, just a pulse check,” he said.

“All those DoD civilians will receive an email outlining next steps…that they need to take in order to comply with this initiative.”

Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) through the OPM had sent emails last week asking personnel to provide 5 things they had accomplished, and about half of the 3 million people in the federal workforce responded.

“I thought it was great. Because we have people that don’t show up to work and nobody even knows if they work for the government,” President Trump told reporters last Monday.
