Democrat legislators came unglued Friday as President Donald Trump confronted Ukraine President Volodymr Zelensky in the Oval Office, claiming POTUS was playing into Russia’s hands by trying to strike a peace deal.
Following Friday’s contentious meeting, which ended with Trump throwing out Zelensky and canceling a joint press conference, deranged Rep. Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) criticized Trump for supposedly making Putin happy.
“It would’ve been a show of strength for the President of the United States to bring the elected leader of Ukraine to the Oval Office and engage with him in a dignified way,” Pelosi wrote. “But you would never know that after President Trump’s shameful display. Putin must be overjoyed with today’s theatrics.”
“Following the U.S. vote in alignment with Russia at the United Nations this week, a disturbing pattern has emerged that is contrary to America’s longstanding support of democracy around the world,” she added.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) repeated the talking point, writing, “Trump and Vance are doing Putin’s dirty work,” in reference to a heated exchange where Trump had to remind Zelensky he had no leverage.
Sen. Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren (Mass.) equated Trump’s peace efforts to “throwing Ukraine to the wolves.”
“Donald Trump is treating the destruction of a democracy as a political show — throwing Ukraine to the wolves and doing a favor for Putin,” Warren shrieked. “It’s shameful and dangerous.”
“I’ve been to Ukraine, as have many Senate Republicans. I hope they speak up. Millions of lives are at stake,” she added.
Rep. Jerry Nadler (N.Y.) compared Trump’s “appeasement” of Putin to British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement of Adolf Hitler in 1938, which ultimately failed to prevent World War II.
“Trump’s appeasement of Putin in the Oval Office today echoes that of Neville Chamberlain in 1938 — and will be remembered as a naive and catastrophic act of surrender to a war criminal,” Nadler posted to X, adding, “If history is any indication, the result will almost surely bring disaster to Europe’s shores once again.”
Ahead of the meeting, Sen. Adam Schiff (Calif.) delivered two snarky tweets that appeared to be written by Gen Z staffers bashing Trump as the peace meeting kicked off.
After the meeting, Schiff did not issue follow-up posts.
During Friday’s meeting, Trump made clear to Zelensky he wants to end unnecessary bloodshed in the region, telling the Ukraine president, “You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people,” and “gambling with World War III.”
Just as Trump is on the verge of negotiating an end to the Ukraine-Russia war, Democrats are trying to derail the efforts and rooting for the US to fail – seemingly unaware the weak Biden era is over and a new sheriff is in town.
