New York City, famous for its world-class pizza among other things, is reaping what it sowed as the Democrat politicians elected by the liberal citizens are set to punish pizzerias using coal or wood fire to cook their pies.
New regulations created by the city’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will force pizzerias using coal and wood-fire ovens installed before 2016 to cut carbon emissions by 75%.
“All New Yorkers deserve to breathe healthy air and wood and coal-fired stoves are among the largest contributors of harmful pollutants in neighborhoods with poor air quality,” DEP spokesman Ted Timbers said Sunday. “This common-sense rule, developed with restaurant and environmental justice groups, requires a professional review of whether installing emission controls is feasible.”
Of course, this bizarre statement ignores the fact the city’s poor air quality is largely due to large-scale industrial waste, not mom-and-pop pizza joints.
However, a major aspect of the WEF globalist “green” agenda is belittling and guilt-tripping average people into giving up their rights and basic way of life while major corporations continue polluting.
One restaurant owner told the New York Post he “spent $20,000 on emission-control air-filter devices” for his business upon learning about the city’s new policy.
A Twitter page called “Climate Dispatch” accurately noted the attack on select pizza places will only result in “a nanoscopic reduction in CO2.”
Internet users harshly criticized NYC’s Democrat leadership for the decision and pizza apparently became a symbol of conservatism.
Activist and artist Scott LoBaido brought some boxes of pizza to the NYC City Hall in protest of the new regulations, saying, “You heard about the Boston Tea Party? Well, this is the New York Pizza Party. Give us pizza or give us death!”
“New York City is nothing without pizza!” LoBaido shouted as he tossed slices over a fence and onto City Hall property.
