A joint intelligence bulletin leaked by a Department of Homeland Security whistleblower shows how the federal government is responding to public outcry over the FBI’s raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

The leaked DHS documents released by Project Veritas on Tuesday warn of heightened risks against federal agents following last week’s unprecedented raid of the 45th president’s Palm Beach resort.

“The threats we have observed, to date, underscore that DVEs [Domestic Violent Extremists] may view the 2022 midterm election as an additional flashpoint around which to escalate threats against perceived ideological opponents, including federal law enforcement personnel,” the bulletin states.

The memo goes on to claim that domestic violent extremists tend to view “government overreach” and “election fraud” as threats to America.

In recent years, DVEs adhering to different violent extremist ideologies have coalesced around perceptions of government overreach and election fraud to threaten and conduct violence. As a result of recent activities, we assess that potential targets of DVE violence moving forward could include law enforcement, judicial officials, individuals implicated in conspiracy theories, and perceived ideological opponents who challenge their worldview.

A disclaimer on the bulletin warns agents not to share this material with the public.

“Information contained in this intelligence bulletin is for official use only. No portion of this bulletin should be released to the media, the general public, or over nonsecure Internet servers. Release of this material could adversely affect or jeopardize investigative activities.”

In a statement that was ratioed on Twitter shortly after the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, FBI Director Christopher Wray quickly attempted to portray the bureau as victims of “unfounded attacks” by critics, characterizing the public’s overwhelmingly negative reactions as “violence and threats against law enforcement.”

“Unfounded attacks on the integrity of the FBI erode respect for the rule of law and are a grave disservice to the men and women who sacrifice so much to protect others. Violence and threats against law enforcement, including the FBI, are dangerous and should be deeply concerning to all Americans,” Wray said in the statement.

“Every day I see the men and women of the FBI doing their jobs professionally and with rigor, objectivity, and a fierce commitment to our mission of protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution. I am proud to serve alongside them.”
