Former FBI Director James Comey called on Justice Department and FBI employees to fight for their jobs after the Trump administration purged FBI leaders and DOJ attorneys involved in prosecuting Jan 6. cases.
Comey made the post on his social media Saturday after acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove on Friday ordered acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll to provide a list by Tuesday of all current and former FBI employees tasked “at any time” to investigate the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
“Fight for the rule of law — to protect your country and to keep your jobs,” Comey wrote on X.

“Don’t let the darkness of bad people steal the joy of public service,” he continued, adding career agents should focus on living their lives “because our country needs you over the long haul.”
Comey, who led the seditious “Crossfire Hurricane” probe into Trump in 2016-2017, went on to characterize Trump administration officials as “evil” and “weak” and assured embattled FBI employees that they won’t be in power forever.
“Know that these people, some evil, most just followers too weak to stand up, will fade, but the need for your work will remain,” Comey wrote.
“Thank you for being light in the darkness,” he concluded.
Comey had notably warned fellow Deep Staters in May 2024 that Donald Trump would target the DOJ and FBI if he was elected in November.
“Trump is coming for those institutions. He knows their power and I think he has regrets that he didn’t work hard enough to corrupt them last time,” Comey said to MSNBC’s Alex Wagner.
Comey was fired by Trump in 2017 after it was revealed he had leaked memos of key meetings with the president to legacy media outlets.
Trump’s DOJ last week ordered at least six senior FBI leaders to retire, resign or be fired, and also fired the heads of more than 20 FBI field offices last week.
Over the weekend, James Dennehy, head of the FBI’s New York field office, has also vowed to “dig in” in response to Trump’s attempts to clear out the agency.
“Today, we find ourselves in the middle of a battle of our own, as good people are being walked out of the FBI and others are being targeted because they did their jobs in accordance with the law and FBI policy,” Dennehy wrote in an email to fellow FBI agents.
Disgruntled former and current FBI agents have reportedly planned to stage a protest outside the bureau’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Monday to demonstrate against Trump’s purge of senior FBI leadership.

But so far, nobody has showed up.
I am outside the FBI Headquarters in Washington, where agents say they will protest President Trump’s new policies today. Six FBI officials have been told to resign today. Also, FBI officials have until Tuesday at noon to give a list of agents who worked on J6 cases. Stay tuned.… pic.twitter.com/I78n9aGsC8
