Thousands of Californians gathered in front of Los Angeles City Hall on Monday to protest the city’s vaccine mandate, which has just gone into effect.

The “March for Freedom” event organized by Firefighters4Freedom shows thousands of people protesting at Grand Park, waving American and Gadsden flags and carrying signs like “My Body My Choice.”

Many of the participants were LAPD, Los Angeles firefighters and first responders.

Retired Los Angeles Police Department detective Moses Castillo told KTLA the protesters weren’t anti-vaccine, but were against forced government inoculations.

“[Those] who are here [are] not so much against being vaccinated, or the vaccine, but they’re against being forced to do so by our local government,” Castillo said.

L.A. firefighter Scott Tomlin, who attended the rally, said he’s prepared to lose his job “because I’m not prepared to lose my life over it.”

The city’s vaccine mandate, which requires customers to show proof of vaccination to access most business, including restaurants, bars, gyms, concert venues, museums, malls, salons and more, takes effect today.
