Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis arrived at the scene of her daughter’s arrest with lover Nathan Wade, despite the pair claiming to have ended the romantic relationship that threw their election interference case against former President Donald Trump in jeopardy.
Footage obtained by The New York Post showed Willis, 52, and Wade, 51, arriving in the same vehicle after her pregnant daughter Kinaya, 25, was pulled over, arrested and charged for driving with a suspended license late last month.
Asked by officers if she and Wade were Kinaya’s parents, Willis responded that he was “just a friend.”
According to The Post, Willis asked about the situation, said she was unaware her daughter’s license was suspended, and was allowed to leave in her daughter’s vehicle:
The two lawyers pulled up in a black Ford SUV after Kinaya had already been taken to the Fayette County Jail and stayed on scene for around five minutes, the footage shows.
Willis could be heard calmly saying it was “news to” her that her younger daughter’s license was suspended, as Wade, wearing a baseball hat, quietly listened before asking about why cops stopped Kinaya, a Texas Southern University student.
Willis shared her license and address with officers and asked for it not to be disclosed publicly, which one officer acknowledged was “for obvious reasons.”
The duo’s appearance together comes as Willis and Wade’s covert relationship formed the crux Trump’s legal defense team used to argue malfeasance after Wade was hired as the special prosecutor assigned to the case by Willis.
The pair were ordered to address the inappropriate relationship in a February court hearing under intense questioning by Trump’s legal team, which argued Wade’s assignment showed Willis’ judgment was compromised.
A judge later ruled Willis could continue overseeing the case if Wade was replaced.
Trump’s team is currently still appealing the case and seeking Willis’ disqualification.
