Unelected New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) called for national gun control and social media censorship laws after a gunman killed 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo on Saturday.
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union”, Hochul called on social media CEOs to “examine their policies” to be able to take down politically incorrect information such as the Great Replacement hypothesis the Buffalo gunman alluded to in his so-called “manifesto.”
“They have to be able to identity when information like this, the second it hits the platform, it needs to be taken down, because this is spreading like wildfire,” Hochul told anchor Dana Bash on Sunday.
“They need to be called out. And leaders elected officials from both parties need to stand up at this moment and call it out and to shame it and to make sure these people crawl back into their holes and stay there,” Hochul continued. “This cannot be part of our mainstream dialogue here in the United States of America. Leaders have a responsibility to call it out.”
Hochul admitted that though New York has some of the “toughest laws” against guns in the US, firearms and “high capacity magazines” are still coming in from other states.
“As a leader of the state of New York, I also have a responsibility to make sure we protect people with respect to guns,” Hochul said. “We have some of the toughest laws in America on the books here, but the guns are coming in from other states or the enhanced magazine, which is exactly what happened here, the high-capacity magazine that led to the slaughter of people in my hometown.”
The Democrat governor argued that the flow of “unfettered” information online must be censored to prevent more violence.
“So, we are dealing with it on the gun side but also on the social media side,” she said. “And the combination of the wild access to guns, unfettered, we need national laws to deal with this as well as the unfettered sharing of hate information on the internet, that is a lethal combination. We saw that on display here just hours ago yesterday.”
Hochul isn’t the only Democrat exploiting the Buffalo mass shooting for political purposes.
Just hours after the shooting, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) called for “commonsense” gun control.
I am heartbroken for the victims of today’s shooting in Buffalo, and am praying for their loved ones and first responders.
We must do more to address the scourge of racism and anti-Semitism, and to pass commonsense gun safety measures to keep our communities safe.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) likewise suggested more gun control on Sunday.
Today, another community was shattered by the horrors of gun violence. We must never stop fighting to stop the bloodshed — because enough is enough.

The anti-Second Amendment group “March For Our Lives” also called for stricter gun control measures.
The victims of the Buffalo shooting deserved a society that truly values their lives. Allowing this endless violence to go unchecked is a choice—a shameful choice that our country makes every day.
May all those who lost their life rest in eternal peace.
