An August 29 episode of Big Brother Watch ‘What the Government isn’t telling you about facial recognition’, detailed the dangers of facial recognition cameras in the U.K. which are now sweeping up innocent people who trigger the surveillance system algorithms.

“Behind me is a Metropolitan Police live facial recognition deployment,” Silkie Carlo, Big Brother Watch director said. “They bring out a van, there are cameras on top of the van that scan everyone’s faces as they walk past.

Carlo went on to say that typically the vans can scan thousands of people’s faces.

“It’s thousands of people who effectively walking through a digital police lineup,” she said.

Carlo explained that when a person walks past a ‘passport style check’ is preformed to see if they are on a database or watchlist. She also explained that people can be put on watchlists for arbitrary reasons including for their own protection from harm, “whatever that means,” she said.

Infowars previously reported on watchlists that U.S. intelligence agencies are amassing on Americans, Americans who are added without first considering ‘facts’ or ‘evidence’.

“Typically what we see is an alert comes up, bam, the person is stopped,” Carlo said. “If they don’t stop voluntarily then they can be physically apprehended.”

In one clip, police officers can be seen examining one man’s face, for ‘distinguishing marks’ after he triggered the facial recognition system as a wanted man.

In the episode Big Brother Watch also covered how shops are now installing facial recognition cameras to scan all who enter.

A young lady who stayed anonymous but identified herself as Sara had her face flagged as a thief, despite not being a thief.

“I just decided to go to Home Bargains,” Sara said with her back to the camera. “So when I walk into the store, not even a minute later a worker comes up to me and says you need to leave you’re a thief you need to leave the store.”

Sara said she had never been to Home Bargains, having just moved into the area. She said the worker told her they have cameras and they detected her face. He searched her bag and kicked her out.

“You’re not going to be able to enter any Home Bargains, any Sports Direct, any Flannels, any Cork in the U.K., you’re banned,” Sara said the worker told her.

Didi Rankovic of Reclaim The Net recently reported on a facial recognition system similar to the one that caught Sara.

The Big Brother Watch episode also played a clip of Prime Minister Keir Starmer saying he wants to expand facial recognition systems in the face of protests against his political policies.
